CCE North Fall 2019 Teachers

Aaron Mikita
Coach Mikita has over 15 years of coaching and leadership experience.  He has coached youth from age four to middle school.  As a two-sport athlete in high school (basketball and soccer), he excelled at soccer as an All-State Defenseman and led his high school team to their first state championship appearance in 30 years.  He has coached with the Catholic Ministries of Frassati and the newly formed Badano Sports since 2016, and this will be his second year partnering with CCE. He seeks to develop character in youth through physical and spiritual development. He and his wife of 14 years have been blessed with four children.

Ann Young
Ann Young graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in English and a diploma in Education. Ann currently attends the Denver Catholic Biblical School and will begin year four this year. She taught English for six years in the public schools, taught various ages/courses for six years for homeschool co-ops, and even had a stint homeschooling her own children. Ann enjoys teaching your delightful and virtuous children!

Brandi Matovina
Brandi is a mom to two (another on the way this fall!) kiddos, and loves nothing more than going on day-time adventures with her girls. Brandi has been teaching art since 2010, and loves seeing what the kids in CCE classes create. Brandi likes to spend her free time on art commissions in encaustic (an ancient medium dating back to the Fayum mummy portraits), and catching a few endorphins through workouts (always snuck in during kiddo nap times). 

Clare Chavez
Clare Chavez has a BA in Philosophy from the University of Dallas where she also studied Spanish. Clare directed a One-on-One tutoring/mentoring program for inner city girls in Chicago where she also taught Character Development for several years. Clare has been homeschooling for over 15 years; she became a fluent Spanish speaker after marrying her wonderful husband, Fernando, who was born and raised in Mexico City.  She enjoys long walks, playing volleyball with her kids, reading, travelling and meeting new people.

Fr. Daniel Kluge
Fr. Daniel Kluge is currently a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Littleton as he begins his hopeful entry into the FSSP. He holds a Licentiate in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America. He has taught Catholic Philosophy in a homeschool co-op in his last traditional parish assignment. He is a priest of the diocese of Covington (Kentucky), a native of Oregon, and has degrees from the University of Dallas and Duquesne University. He enjoys only the best beer, coffee, and bourbon. 

Helen Swavely
Helen Swavely is a joyful wife of 25 years, and a homeschooling mother of five children. Helen is a veteran home educator entering her 19th year of home instruction with a passion for literature and science driving her homeschooling days. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art History with a minor in General Sciences, and she has been teaching in our CCE homeschool cooperative for the last three years to our Early Grammar Stage children. When she is not teaching our children, she is teaching mothers at the Charlotte Mason Study Guild which she founded. Helen greatly enjoys leisurely walks in nature with her family, as well as sketching, bread making, and regular visits with the classics and Robert Frost poems. She is an eager student of the Charlotte Mason and Schole, Restful Learning philosophies, as well as a lover and servant of Jesus and Mary. Helen loves to set the stage that the world is our classroom and greatly enjoys bringing children with her to discover the wonder of our beautiful world.

John VanderLaan
John VanderLaan is a licensed architect in the State of Colorado and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver. He currently owns a firm involved in design/build and real estate investments. John has taught construction management classes at the college level and enjoys art with a specialty in water color.  He is an avid skier and enjoys traveling. He is looking forward to the opportunity to share his talents with CCE.

Josey Hall
Josey Hall earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Metropolitan State University of Denver, with a biology minor. She has homeschooled her daughter for the past 10 years and has been active in the homeschool community during this time. Josey recently graduated from the Denver Catholic Biblical School in May 2016 from their Comprehensive Biblical Studies 4-year Program. She has facilitated an adult Classics Book Club for the past seven years. Her favorite book (after The Bible, of course) is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo–a tale of redemption! In her spare time, she enjoys reading, photography, hiking, camping, and spending time with her family.

Julie Marsicek
Julie Marsicek graduated from Cleveland State University with a BA in Social Science. She has enjoyed homeschooling her three children for six years, and has taught in the CCE North Early Grammar Co-op for two years. Julie has also taught different levels of religious education at St. Thomas More parish over the years. Her hobbies include reading, hiking, camping, and taking car trips across the United States. Julie has been blessed with the opportunity to visit all 50 states.

Marilyn Stephens
Marilyn Stephens is a graduate of SUNY at Potsdam with a BA in Biology.  She currently holds a teaching license in Colorado with a 7-12 endorsement. She has over 30 years of public school experience, teaching both Life Science and Physical Science at the middle school level.  She is an avid seamstress and enjoys relaxing with her family.

Mary Machado
Mary Machado has a B.S. in Biology and an M.A. in Health Education & Gerontology, with a certificate in secondary education. She was a home educator for over 20 years, with all of her children now grown and graduated. She has a love for history and science topics and hands-on learning in these areas. She has taught co-op and enrichment program classes in various fields for over 15 years. 

Monica Mayhak
Monica Mayhak received her B.S. in Applied Mathematics with minors in Economics and Computer Science from the University of Texas. She has taught math, economics, literature, history, and civics at homeschool co-ops for 13 years. She homeschooled all of her children and now has three college graduates (one headed to grad school this fall), one in college, and two still schooling at home. She is also blessed with two grandchildren.

Sara Lange
Sara Lange is a former classroom teacher turned homeschooling mom of six! Sara is trained in Level One and Level Two of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and has been a lead Level One catechist for eight years.  She looks forward to adventuring with your students through the breadth and depth of beautiful illustrations and captivating text.
